Great Chishill is a small village located right on the borders of Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire, and can boast that it is the highest point in Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk! From the village you can see the city of Cambridge about 12 miles away, and on a clear day, it is possible to see Ely Cathedral 35 miles away!

The village has a lovely old church dating back to the 12th Century (founded in AD1136) and a superb pub, 'The Pheasant' where one is always welcomed by friendly staff, excellent ales and wines, and good, home cooked food. (Note that from 1st July 2007 smoking will be banned in all pubs and restaurants in Britain).

Many of the houses in the older parts of the village are thatched and over 200 years old, many showing the traditional patterning in the render, called 'pargetting', found almost uniquely in the county of Essex.

This is a rural area, the village being surrounded by farmland growing cereals such as wheat, oats and barley, oilseed rape and sugar beet. Sheep are also farmed here.

Great Chishill is a perfect location for exploring the many delights of the eastern part of England (known as East Anglia), with Cambridge only 12 miles away, London about 60 miles and only 50 miles to the east coast. The accommodation that we offer is quiet and peaceful, the perfect place to relax after a day's sightseeing, or exploring, away from the hustle, bustle and traffic noise that is so common in today's busy life.
